HotelChatter.com is reporting today that the Seaport Hotel in Boston is going to be offering a Green Weddings package to engaged couples now. Some of the options available to engaged couples are:

A menu featuring local and organic ingredients
Organic wedding cakes
A menu made of edible chocolate….how awesome is that!
Decorations made from soy-based materials
Potted plants, orchids and silk trees

If you’re in Boston, you’re in luck. If you’re not in Boston, start asking if these options are available to as well from your reception venue. You may find they can do more for you than you think.

If you’re looking for alternative ingredients for your wedding cake (i.e. eggless) many local grocery stores have access to the ingredients you want, you’ll probably just have to ask. Unless you’re going to a Whole Foods or Wild Oats, you may not realize that they can make a wedding cake with your specified ingredients. If you don’t have either store near you, About.com has a list by state of some local bakeries that offer vegan or organic ingredients for wedding cakes.

What to do with your wedding flowers…

As you’re planning your wedding and wondering what to do with your wedding flowers once the reception is over, Darcy Miller, author of The Bride’s Guide Blog, has a couple great suggestions:

“At the end of every wedding I go to, I’m always left wondering, “What will happen to all of these flowers?” Beautiful floral centerpieces are a mainstay at most weddings, but they can be extremely wasteful. The solution? Use eco-friendly flowering potted plants instead. A cluster of 6 or 8 will make a lush table arrangement, not to mention a convenient take-home favor. Or call a local nursing home or hospital to see if they’ll accept the blooms—you’ll feel even better post-wedding knowing that you’ve brightened someone else’s day. (For brides in New York or LA, FlowerPowerFoundation.org will pick them up and deliver them to the sick and elderly.) New Belgium beer company based out of Colorado offers a Belgium style beer, Mothership Wit, made with all organic ingredients. You can also try using dried or silk flowers as an eco friendly alternative. And try to reuse your wedding flowers by using your ceremony flowers as table decorations at the reception. After the party, donate them to a local hospital or senior citizen center or send them home with your guests.
